Published on April 10, 2026

Maternal health and proper nutrition are critical for both the mother and the newborn child. To ensure that pregnant women in Bihar receive adequate rest and medical care, the government offers direct financial assistance through the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY).

Under this health scheme, eligible pregnant women and lactating mothers receive cash benefits directly into their bank accounts to help cover the costs of nutritious food and medical check-ups.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF PMMVY?
The scheme provides financial assistance in installments so that the mother receives continuous support throughout her pregnancy and the child's early months.
• First Child: Mothers receive ₹5,000 in three installments (₹1,000 upon early registration, ₹2,000 after 6 months of pregnancy with at least one antenatal check-up, and ₹2,000 after the child's birth and first cycle of vaccinations).
• Second Child (If a Girl): To promote the health and well-being of the girl child, the government now provides a single installment of ₹6,000 if the second child is a girl.
